Elvis, Scotty and Bill played Eagle’s Nest in Memphis, a nightclub over the changing room at the Clearpool complex. Also on the bill: Tiny Dixon Band and The Eagles
After the show the 3 went to Shreveport, with Sam Philips. Sam had arranged a try-out on the Louisiana Hayride. After a seven-hour drive, they checked in their hotel, the Captain Shreve Hotel.

After several weeks in Las Vegas, Elvis returned to Memphis before travelling to Nashville to record 5 songs at RCA’s Studio B between 6.00 p.m. and 4.00 a.m. The injured guitarist Hank Garland was replaced by Jerry Kennedy.

Elvis was in Memphis. He went shopping and bought a shoulder holster. A couple of days before he was given an official badge which permitted him to carry a pistol.

In the evening he attended The Gospel Quartet Convention at Ellis Auditorium where he was introduced to the audience by James Blackwood, leader of the Blackwood Brothers.

1971
It was a blessing in disguise when Rick Nelson played the seventh annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Revival Show in New York. He thought he was being booed for not playing his old hits and came away with the inspiration to write what would be his last Top Ten hit, “Garden Party”, which would climb to number six in 1972. It was later revealed that the crowd was booing some trouble makers who had started a fight and were being escorted out of the building.
1972
From October 8 to the end of the month, Elvis watched almost every night movies at the Memphian or the Crosstown.
1973
The US Supreme Court decides by a 7-2 vote to refuse to review a 1971 Federal Communications directive that broadcasters, in effect, censor songs with drug-oriented lyrics. The two dissenting votes are cast by Justices William J. Brennan and William O. Douglas, who say, “The government cannot, consistent with the First Amendment, require a broadcaster to censor its music.”
After a short period of feeling well, Elvis, again having breathing problems, forced Dr. Nichopoulos to admit Elvis as his patient to Memphis Baptist Memorial Hospital. Elvis got through a great amount of tests to determine the cause of his condition. Heart failure was ruled out and Dr. Nichopoulos deflected that it could have something to do with Elvis’ “acupuncture” (Demerol injections) treatments in California. Elvis had to remain in the hospital for 2 weeks and Linda stayed on his side the whole time.
1974
With Sheila Ryan Elvis travelled to Las Vegas, to put himself under the care of Dr. Elias Ghanem. This doctor had taken care of Elvis during engagements since 1972.
1976
Ike and Tina Turner announce that they have split as a musical act. Their marriage had broken down the previous July and their divorce would become final on March 29th, 1978.

The rest of the Top 10: Foreigner moved up with their self-titled release, Anytime…Anywhere by Rita Coolidge was #6, the Soundtrack to “Star Wars” was #7, JT by James Taylor, I Robot from the Alan Parsons Project was #9 and the Doobie Brothers slipped into the Top 10 with Livin’ On the Fault Line

The Elvis Presley collector’s edition album “If Every Day Was Like Christmas” was released.

1997
Michael Jackson played the last date on the HIStory Tour at King’s Park Rugby Stadium, Durban, South Africa. During the tour, Jackson performed 82 concerts in 58 cities to over 4.5 million fans, visiting 5 continents and 35 countries.
