Bootlegs with offically unreleased STUDIO outtakes

Post by Bilbobaggins »

There are quite a few bootleg/Import LP's and CD's with officially unreleased live recordings, but the bootlegs with unreleased STUDIO outtakes are getting less and less.

To start it off... this is one of them:

Elvis Presley / Black star. A 12" vinyl, 45 rpm from SGT Bilko productions, released in 1988. It has only 4 tracks. The cover has a beautiful promo photo for Jailhouse Rock. The cover mentions it as "Printed in Italy". Maybe so, but the vinyl is produced by our famous Dutch bootlegger who also designed the sleeve.

Side 1: Black Star and You Don't Know Me
Side 2: Slicin' Sand and Message To His UK Fans

Black Star is the still unreleased master, being a splice of take 14 and insert#1 take 5. The "master" released by RCA on the Double Features CD is take 14 without the repair. At the time of this release, Black Star was unreleased in any form... so a new song at the time! See Keith Flynn's great site: https://www.keithflynn.uk/recording-ses ... 00808.html

You Don't Know Me is take 1 of the september 11, 1967 remake

Slicin' Sand is take 17

Message To His UK Fans is recorded on april 26, 1964.

In the first post is shown an original pressing (with blue printed label); there was also a counterfeit released with green printed label and less quality.

It was great when the Venus label released their Welcome To The Jungle series 15 years ago.
The volumes contained a lots of complete and FS takes from the jungle room in 1976 in amazing sound quality.
A lot of them are still not released officially.

It's a mystery why we haven't had this released. Is someone sitting on it, and demanding a lot of money? Does anyone even know who has it?

I think the splice is evident before the last "Black Star," sung by Elvis and the Jordanaires in unison during the final thirteen seconds of this extremely scratchy rip attached here. It's nothing special or distinctive.

Black Star (Composite)
