Scotty Moore and Bill Black played Texas State Fair, Dallas, TX (4 shows daily from October 5 to 20)
The Elvis Presley film “Jailhouse Rock” premiered at Loew’s State Theater in Memphis. Elvis had worked at the theater in 1952.
The film also starred Judy Tyler, Mickey Shaughnessy, and Dean Jones. Tyler was killed in a car accident a few weeks after the movie was completed, and Presley was so upset by it that he refused to ever watch the completed film.
1962
In between their lunchtime and night shows at The Cavern Club in Liverpool, The Beatles travelled to Granada TV Centre in Manchester to make their television debut. They appeared live on the local magazine program People and Places performing two songs ‘Some Other Guy’ and ‘Love Me Do’.

1963
the Beatles recorded “I Want to Hold Your Hand” in studio two at the EMI Studios on Abbey Road in London. It was the first song the group had recorded using four tracks, and they recorded 17 takes of the song. The Beatles also recorded the flip side of the single, “This Boy”, as well as the first of seven Christmas recordings that they gave away to members of their fan club.
This was the date of Elvis’ second-degree black belt. He got a certificate with his name on it, which he carried at the time of his death.

1964
A Hard Day’s Night by the Beatles was the #1 album for the 13th straight week. Something New by the Beatles was second, followed by Everybody Loves Somebody by Dean Martin and People by Barbra Streisand, which moved from 17 to 3.

The Elvis Presley film “Spinout,” co-starring Shelley Fabares, Diane McBain, Deborah Walley, Will Hutchins, Warren Berlinger, Carl Betz, and Cecil Kellaway, had its world premiere in Memphis.
1967
The great musical Hair premiered at the Public Theatre in New York City and would run for 1,758 performances.

Elvis in Memphis: Elvis returned once again to the Quartet Convention where he sung with James Blackwood, Hovie Lister and bass singer J.D. Sumner. Backstage their picture was taken.

American singer and television presenter Tennessee Ernie Ford died of liver failure. Had the 1955 US & UK No.1 hit with his version of the Merle Travis song ‘Sixteen Tons’. In the 60’s hosted a daytime talk show, The Tennessee Ernie Ford Show on the ABC television network.

Sales figures from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) showed almost 550,000 vinyl LPs were sold so far in the UK in 2013, the highest total in the past ten years. That was still a small amount compared to downloads and CD sales, accounting for just 0.7% of all albums sold.
