Seventy years ago today, on Oct. 15, 1955, a 19-year-old musician from Lubbock, Texas, walked onto the stage at the Cotton Club's "Big D Jamboree" to open for Elvis Presley. That young performer was Buddy Holly, and the night would change his life forever.
Holly had been playing music since childhood, teaching himself guitar and performing country songs with his friend Bob Montgomery. By 1955, he was still searching for his big break while working part-time at Panhandle Steel Products and attending Lubbock High School.
