1944

Frank Sinatra returned to the Paramount Theatre to a huge crowd known as the “Columbus Day Riot.”

1954

Elvis worked at Crown Electric, until mid-October 1954

1955

The Chrysler Corporation introduces high fidelity record players for their 1956 line-up of cars. The unit measured about four inches high and less than a foot wide and mounted under the instrument panel. The seven inch discs spun at 16 2/3 rpm and required almost three times the number of grooves per inch as an LP. A set of 35 classical recordings were available that provided between 45 and 60 minutes of uninterrupted music. The players would be discontinued in 1961.

Elvis performed at the High School Auditorium, Midland, Texas.

The other acts were Jimmy Newman, Johnny Cash, Floyd Cramer, Jimmy Day, Wanda Jackson, Porter Wagoner and Bobby Lord

A motion picture called Don’t Knock The Rock, featuring Little Richard and Bill Haley And His Comets, opens in US theatres. The movie tells the story of a disc jockey, Alan Freed, who tries to prove to teenagers’ parents that Rock ‘n’ Roll is harmless and won’t turn their kids into juvenile delinquents.

Elvis performed at the Heart O’ Texas Coliseum, Waco, Texas:

Heartbreak Hotel
I Got A Woman
Dont Be Cruel
Money Honey
Blue Suede Shoes
Love Me Tender

On tour in Sydney, Australia, Little Richard denounces Rock ‘n’ Roll, saying “If you want to live for the Lord, you can’t take Rock and Roll too. God doesn’t like it.” When his sax player, Clifford Burks, dares Richard to prove his “faith in God,” Little Richard tosses four diamond rings, valued at $8,000, into Sydney’s Hunter River and soon after launches a Gospel career. Five years later, he would switch back to Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Scotty Moore and Bill Black played Texas State Fair, Dallas, TX (4 shows daily from October 5 to 20)

Elvis left Memphis for a Las Vegas vacation. He stayed at the Sahara Hotel and dated the exotic dancer Tempest Storm.

1962

The Beatles, still just an up and coming local group, open for one of their idols, Little Richard at a concert at New Brighton Towne, Liverpool. Although Richard apparently found John and George to be “rude,” he was quite taken with Paul, reportedly to the point of trying to seduce him.

1969
Elvis and Priscilla, Vernon and Dee, the Esposito’s, the Gambills and the Schillings returned to Los Angeles. The group had come up with the thought to spend their vacation in Europe. Every single one of them really wanted to go to Europe, and the ones without a passport went to arrange for one. The Colonel, however, argued with them that Elvis’ European fans would never accept that Elvis would come to Europe as a tourist and not as a performer. So the plans changed and the bunch switched to the Bahamas.

1970

Elvis flew to Las Vegas to pick up a new car.

1972

From October 8 to the end of the month, Elvis watched almost every night movies at the Memphian or the Crosstown.

1973
Elvis and Linda arrived at Graceland, where Linda called Dr. Nichopoulos. Just the day before Elvis experienced some difficulty breathing, so Dr. Nichopoulos arranged for his nurse, Tish Henley, to care for Elvis at home.

1974
Elvis did Dinner and Midnight Tahoe Shows.

1976

Elvis returned the call from Red West and for the first time after the firing they had a long talk. Red taped this conversation. There was the overall tone of regret on both sides, and Elvis speech patterns indicted extreme stress, distress and depression; often deflecting into song titles or lyrics, reaching for what he wanted to say directly.

Elvis never confronted Red directly, but simply said: ” If you need me for anything, I would be more than happy to help out. You do whatever you have to do. I just want you and Pat to know I’m still here.”

Elvis jumps around topics but it makes sense if you know what all was going on - he is indirectly asking Red to protect him despite Red having been fired

1991

Mariah Carey breaks The Jackson 5’s record of four straight number one hits when “Emotions” becomes the fifth of her first five singles to reach the top of the Billboard chart. In April, 2008, she would pass Elvis Presley’s record (because his first 2 years were not counted anymore) when she achieved her 18th Billboard chart topper, second at the time to only The Beatles 20.

1999
The book “Elvis Day by Day” by Peter Guralnick and Ernst Jorgensen was released.

2002

Twenty-five years after his death, an album of Elvis Presley‘s best selling songs entitled “Elvis – 30 #1 hits”, tops the Billboard album chart.
