Kay Wheeler was the president of the very first large-scale Elvis Presley fan club in 1956 and was also a friend and promoter of Elvis early in his career. She met him after a Dallas radio DJ announced her address on air, leading to a flood of fan mail, and she later met Elvis in person after receiving a telegram from Colonel Tom Parker. Wheeler was a key figure in early rock and roll culture, a promoter for Elvis, and even appeared in the 1957 movie Rock Baby, Rock It.
Founder of the first national fan club: Wheeler started the first documented national Elvis Presley fan club in the world, which grew to 60,000 members by 1958.
Early friend and promoter: She was a friend and promoter of Elvis, whom she first met after a radio DJ jokingly announced her as the fan club president, including her address on air.

Meeting Elvis: After starting the club, she received a telegram from Elvis's manager, Colonel Parker, allowing her backstage access to meet him in San Antonio in April 1956. She and Elvis danced together backstage, and she was also a part of the premiere for Jailhouse Rock.

Role in rock and roll culture: Wheeler was an outspoken representative of the new rock and roll culture, and she is also known as the "Queen of 'The Rock-n-Bop'" for her appearance in the 1957 movie Rock Baby, Rock It.
