That's another one I haven't seen before. Are the missing instruments the result of eliminating one of the stereochannels (and then make it mono) or did they mix them out somehow (and then still stereo)?

Well, it's much like some off the masters that where released on "Elvis forever vol 2", missing channels.
But nothing really to get exited about, they sound very much like the originals.
But the artwork and the fact that's it's a boot, make them for me nice object.

Right now I am listening to that mighty fine release "Singer Presents Elvis" by Venus Productions. It has good sound and the CD is housed in a nice 88 pages hardcover book(let). Still a portion of the tracks are officially unreleased. I really hope, and I am convinced, that FTD will release a book/CD combo with the complete Burbank sessions at one point. Until then... this one and the officially released music will do fine.
Oh yes... I think the "foreword by Susan Henning" is quite funny.

Right now I'm listening to "Behind Closed Doors". As you can see, it is not the original audifon release but a re-release by "Hepcat". In the days of the original release I couldn't afford it so a friend of mine made a cassette copy for me. A couple of years later, when I could afford it, I saw a near mint copy of the original set for €40,- at Elviscorner in Utrecht. The shopowner said it was a bargain (and he was right!) but I didn't buy it. I still regret it!
So, to ease the paint, years later I bought this "Hepcat" set. Also nice... but still...
It is packed in a 10" box and includes a CD with the original tracks, a 10" mini vinyl LP with 8 tracks from the original album and a 2 track vinyl single. Both of these are on red vinyl. The sound is very good on all three discs. Oh, and by the way, there has to be a box somewhere in my attic that has the old cassette my friend made for me in it...

Great set!
At the United Elvis Presley Society's (Belgium club) two yearly Elvis market, bought me a nearly new copy for only 25€ last june (saw several copies there, same pricerange).. so those prices are up and down.

Great record (pressing could have been a bit better, some pops in the quiet moments), but it's a release worth collecting!
Nice to have the tracks on a bonus cd too.

This looks very nice Johan. It makes a nice listen, I guess. Elvis sure recorded some good music in '71. Nothing groundbreaking, like in the '50s, but nonetheless very good and often underappreciated music. I also like the simple but effective '70s artwork.

Sunset Boulevard sparked my interest in some tracks, which I was not particularly fond of earlier. They have grown on me in the past month. So it is disc 1 of the set that is getting quite a regular rotation right now.

That's another nice one Johan. Never saw it before. I see there's only one pressing made (+ a promo pressing and a cassette- version). Nice, but indeed, that ERS... Unbelievable that someone, or maybe even a lot of people, at one point felt it sounded good that way!

I do agree with you that "Elvis Sings..." (I only have it on vinyl) has great sound. Although I would have chosen the studio master for "Danny Boy" and a live master for "My way". But as you say... a great album and good sound!
I do not agree that "If I Can Dream" is a political song. The lyrics are written as a reaction to what happened in the world/US in the late 60's. There is a message of hope in the song. I don't hear any political statements in the lyrics as in, for example, "The Times They Are A-Changin'".

Since all the discussion regarding the new Peter Guralnick book, I decided to re-read "Last Train To Memphis" again, for the 3rd time I think. I used to have the hardcover version but I lended it to a fellow fan years ago. We lost contact, and I lost the book, so I had to buy it again. The softcover unfortunately.
Anyhow... while reading this fine book I am listening to Ernst's opus magnum, "A Boy From Tupelo". Reading about this young boy making his first steps on the road to stardom while listening to his voice and music gives me goosebumps every now and then. From "My Happiness" to songs like "Mystery Train". Wow!
There also are moments I feel sorry for Elvis. While he was making it as an artist he lost his first big love, Dixie, and later on, step by step his freedom and joy in his personal life.
But that music is f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c!
