EPIC is pretty ecxiting news.
And it is great to be back on an Elvis forum, took a while to find this one.
Anyway, I have collected the most noteworthy comments from the Baz Luhrmann interviews on EPIC and included these in a new episode on my YouTube channel if you are interested.

To avoid fans going in a bit of a wild goose chase to cast a vote, you will have to provide evidence of ticket purchase with the email used for purchase.

Well Paul Sweeny says, they are still intrested in footage that is in private hands. So that should mean that we are getting more ELVIS down the line right?

It sounds like Luhrmann and Redmond would want to complete the restoration.

A guess, but afterwards it would be EPE who would decide what to do with the restored material.

I am hoping for a complete Hampton Roads concert.
And completely restored 1970 rehersals.

Maybe by 2027 big anniversary? Maybe supervised by Riley?

One can dream.

It's great that 59 hours of footage is available BUT 59 hours is not a lot when you take in consideration that it is the total footage of both films. The April 10, 1972 Richmond show for example appears to be lost completely. EPIC also brings a tragedy to light: it seems the material was never properly digitalized and the salt mine in Kansas seems to have been quite emptied over the decades. No wonder Baz Luhrmann and Jonathan Redmond are reaching out to collectors for audio and video sources as a lot of the material seems to be missing.

The thing that some may misinterpret is that 59 hours of footage does not mean 59 hours of different shows/concerts being captured but just the same shows taken from different angles including lots of B-Roll footage like shots from behind Elvis, audience footage and long shots too. So a one hour show could include a few hours of footage, but when edited together still produces a one hour show.

Exactly. So 59 hours is not much at all given the fact that the 2 teams filmed at least 10 shows (6 That's The Way It Is and 4* for Elvis On Tour), were present at 8 rehearsals and then taking in consideration the backstage, in car, hotel footage and interviews done. All that with multiple angles. Than 59 hours is not much at all.

* 5 if you count the informal filming (without sound) of the Buffalo show

I’m glad you guys are clearing that up for everyone. We need people to understand the 59 hours thing.

59 hours seems too short if you are counting footage shot from EVERY camera angle from BOTH documentaries.

It's also somewhat of a coincidence that the editor of EPiC [Jonathan Redmond] mentioned the 59 hours, as this figure closely matches the account of the original production team of Elvis on Tour, who told the Copley News Service in 1972 that they had shot 60 hours of footage.

It's possible Redmond may well have been thinking solely of the Elvis on Tour film negative.

I'd like to think the 59 hours are an approximation of the intended usable filmed footage.
By simple logic, it can't be from all the angles available for the two movies.
it must be approximately 200 hours IMO. :D
