Canadian stuff

Post by Bilbobaggins »

Haha... I couldn't think of a better title for this topic...

Playing the "A Canadian Tribute" LP from 1978, I fipped through my LP's to look what other Canadian "stuff" I had. The LP's I found were all (except for one) exclusive Canadian product. By the way... "Snowbird" fades out very early because they used the master from the LP "Elvis Country". Strange that they couldn't use the master without the snippet of "I Was Born...".

"Elvis' Gold Records Volume 4", "A Legendary Performer Volume 1", "A Legendary Performer Volume 2" and "A Canadian Tribute" are Canadian pressings on translucent gold vinyl. Very nice!

"A Legendary Performer Volume 3" is the Canadian pressing of the picture disc. Not exclusive Canadian... but it insisted to be included here ;-)

Image

Then, of course there is the fine book by Canadian Paul Sweeney (+ Jean-Marc Carisse & Eric Lorentzen)... "One Night In Toronto". Still love flipping through those pages.

Image

That should be all of my "Canadian stuff".

Maybe some of you have nice exclusives from Canada that you are willing to share or discuss? Be my guest!

There wasn't another master available (without the integrated 10,000 years ago song) until Dennis Ferrante remixed those "Elvis Country" 1970 recordings for The Essential 70's Masters in 1995...

One of my favorite albums at the time shortly after Elvis passed away was this one... I actually had the cassette back then and played it a lot. I have since purchased the vinyl version. But I loved that album... reprocessed stereo effect and all!!

there were also several Canadian singles released after Elvis' death including quite a few on coloured vinyl.
I have Unchained Melody, Little Darlin', My Way, Teddy Bear and Are You Sincere. Also have several on black vinyl in stiff card sleeves including You Gave Me A Mountain, Blue Hawaii and Way Down.

Talking about Canadian releases/pressings.
I'm immediately reminded of this one.
Of all my pressings of "That's the way it is" (among them Japan or UK), the original Canadian pressing from 1970 is to my ears the best sounding one.
In fact, it's so good, i've got two of them! ;)

Another great Canadian compilation release of his earlier hits from 1973. Advertised as a television offer. You can only get this through mail order only. Not available in stores.

Here's the original commercial from 1973. I believe it was a company out of Toronto, Canada.

Thanks for the pics and the commercial. Nice to see.

Odd that they only used photo's from the '68 and 70's period to sell a compilation album containing 50's and early 60's hits. But then, the cover-art of Elvis records rarely was very artistic, save for maybe 5 original album covers.

What a great choice for a front cover photo! How is this book, by the way?

My guess is that Parker was behind the packaging (album cover & inner sleeve) of this packaged offer because he felt that the huge success of the recent "Aloha" special would rub off into other marketing ventures including this one, hence the "Aloha" pics used on the cover. It's all about effective marketing & money for Parker, and who could blame him. He probably thought that fans would think that those 50's & 60's songs listed were actually re-recordings done for the Aloha special but were not included in the live album. Parker is a well known trickster. ;)

Hi friends,

Here's some of my Canadian stuff.
I particularly like the Loving You one (a 1971 reproduction according to DISCOGS) and not so often seen I think.
Other than that, I must say they sounds very good, but nothing to beat the Japanese versions (Fot the 70's releases).

Have a great day.

Thank you, very nice! I hadn't seen the 5LP box "A Collectors's Edition" before. A Canada-only release if I am right.

Yes, it's a Canada-only release. Mine is a 1977 reissue and a nice set.

Public domain releases are a European thing but we actually got a couple of LP's in Canada too.

The Canadian sheet music of Viva Las Vegas, which strangely has the photo of Elvis from 1956.
