In that case the price is more than ok. ;)

AfoolSuchAsI. wrote: August 31st, 2025, 3:24 pmIs it better to buy it by eBay or by Discord or vinyl fairs ?
The condition descriptions on Discogs are often not very accurate. Without corresponding photos, you can take a risk. In record stores or at record fairs, you know what you're getting. Your purchase was definitely a good decision.
So thank you so much and other Elvis fans .
We learn more from each other and thats makes this hobby so fantastic and great ;)

I agree.
Looks like a ´63-´64 release.

To recognize a pressing you’ll take a look to the pressed matrixnumber in the lead-out groove of the album.
Through the years RCA has changed his mastering system a few times

At the end of 1954 the codes were changed – the following were used until 1962:

1st character (year recorded)
F = 1955
G = 1956
H = 1957
J = 1958
K = 1959
L = 1960
M = 1961
N = 1962

2nd character (numerical label designation)

3rd character (letter label designation)

4th character (size, speed & designation)
A: stereo 7" 45rpm/B: mono 10" 78rpm (1955-58) then master tape (1958-62)
C: mono 12" 78rpm
E: (unknown) 33rpm (c 1956)
G: stereo 7" 33rpm EP
H: mono 45rpm EP
I: mono 7" 33rpm
L: mono 10" 33rpm
M: mono 16" 33rpm
O: stereo 7" 33rpm
P: mono 12" 33rpm
Q: mono 7" 33rpm (multiple selections)
U: mono 7" 33rpm EP
V: mono 7" 78 rpm
W: mono 7" 45rpm
Y: stereo 12" 33rpm
Z: stereo 45rpm EP

Plant identication of stampers
I = Indianapolis
H = Hollywood
R = Rockaway

A1 = first mold made from first master
A3 = third mold made from first master
C2 = second mold made from third master

master or mother is one of the parts (made from laquer) of the production process and should not be confused with a master tape as made in the recording studio.

from laquer to master>>>

lacquer – nickel mold nickel stamper – finishing nickel stamper – silver faced master

Studio
A 3 = filmcompany
A 4 = RCA Nashville
A 5 = not RCA studio

Today I got some nice old UK mono vinyl. At about €3,- a piece I couldn't resist, of course. A couple of the sleeves have had a bumpy life and the LP's gathered quite some dust, but after an afternoon of attention and a good cleaning, they look and sound fine again. I'm amazed again how good these more than 60 years old records still sound.

One thing I noticed was that, especially some 50's songs, sound quite different than how they sound on other (US, German etc) pressings. The mastering/EQ is very different to my ears. I looked around on the internet and read somewhere that, in the 50's a d 60's, British sound-engineers used to emphasize on midtones more than bass tones remastering the tracks. The reason would be that British recordplayers were less "bassy" than US sets. I don't know if that's true, but the difference in (mono) sound is obvious to me.

Maybe a (British) vinyl collector on this board can shed some light on this? Did they indeed master them differently? And for what reason?

BTW...These are my new "buddies":

Elvis' Golden Records, UK 1958, mono

Elvis' Golden Records Volume 2, UK 1960, mono
Image

A Date With Elvis, UK 1959, mono
Image

Elvis Is Back, UK 1960, mono
Image

GI Blues, UK 1960, mono

I'm happy with these oldies!

The UK 'Elvis is back' mono version is my ultimate favorite pressing of my ultimate favorite record.
It's so good, has the punch, the sound, it has everything and more.
At the price you paid for these, it's a steal!

Very nice find. Does your Red Seal version of Golden Records have the gatefold sleeve and if so how many pages of photos does it have?

I will surely be going to that fair! It is huge... the biggest in the world, they say. I've been visiting it for years. Last year I met a guy at the fair, coming from New Zealand. His main reason for a trip to the Netherlands was... this record fair!

Have fun AfoolSuchAsI!

Yes, it does have the gatefold sleeve. It has 8 pages of photo's, not counting the inner sleeve photo. Quite similar to the photobook in the original "Elvis Christmas Album" but with partly different photo's.
