January 26, 1972 – Opening Night 1972 (2001 Label) soundboard – 1997.
See See Rider (incomplete) – Proud Mary – Never Been to Spain – You Gave Me A Mountain – Until It’s Time For You to Go – Polk Salad Annie – Love Me – Little Sister/Get Back – All Shook Up – Teddy Bear/Don’t Be Cruel – One Night – Hound Dog – A Big Hunk O’ Love – Bridge Over Troubled Water – Lawdy, Miss Clawdy – An American Trilogy – Introductions – I’ll Remember You – Suspicious Minds - Can’t Help Falling in Love – Closing Vamp.
I was surprised that FTD did not include this show in their huge box set ‘Elvis Now in Person 1972 since they cover that period, and obviously this show has been available for a long time. New songs added for this season includes ‘Never Been to Spain’, ‘You Gave Me A Mountain’, ‘Until It’s Time for You to Go’, ‘An American Trilogy’ and ‘I’ll Remember You’. A good show overall.
August 4, 1972 - No Fooling Around (Ampex) audience – 2003.
2001 Theme - See See Rider – A Big Hunk O’ Love – Never Been to Spain – You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling – Love Me Tender – Mystery Train/Tiger Man – What Now My Love? – Love Me - Little Sister/Get Back – Blue Suede Shoes – One Night – You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me – Hound Dog – My Way – My Babe – Introductions of Sammy Davis Jr. and Paul Anka - Can’t Help Falling in Love – Closing Vamp.
The sound is very good for this incomplete concert and Elvis does a good show including the rare ‘My Babe’ making a comeback. He would do this song on other occasions in 1972 and never again, so it’s nice to hear it. New songs include ‘What Now My Love’ and ‘My Way’. This CD is missing ‘The Wonder of You’ and ‘An American trilogy’. A good show.
January 26, 1973 – Back on the Mainland (Memories of Elvis) audience – 2005.
2001 Theme - See See Rider – Burning Love – Something – Introduction of Kathy Westmoreland – You Gave Me A Mountain – Steamroller Blues – Sweet Caroline – My Way – Love Me – Blue Suede Shoes – Johnny B. Goode – Lawdy, Miss Clawdy – Fever – Hound Dog – I Can’t Stop Loving You –I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry - What Now My Love – Suspicious Minds – Introductions – I’ll Remember You – Long Tall Sally/Whole Lotta Shakin’ Going On - Can’t Help Falling in Love.
Too bad the sound is just average because this show has a great set list, including ‘Burning Love’ right after ‘See See Rider’, ‘Something’, ‘Steamroller Blues’ (which he mixes up the ending), ‘Sweet Caroline’, and a rare ‘I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry’. This is the complete version, including a guitar break, which is longer than the one he did in the Aloha Show. The show has 3 missing songs: ‘An American Trilogy’, ‘A Big Hunk O’ Love’ and ‘Walk that Lonesome Road’ by the Stamps. Hopefully a better sounding and more complete version of this show will be available in the future.
August 6, 1973 – Raised on Vegas (Memory Records) audience – 2008.
2001 Theme - See See Rider – Trouble/Raised on Rock – Love Me – Steamroller Blues – What Now My Love – Blue Suede Shoes – Memphis Tennessee – Rock Medlney – Love Me Tender – Hound Dog – Fever – My Boy – Suspicious Minds – Band Introductions – Introductions of Petula Clark and Liza Minelli – I Can’t Stop Loving You – An American Trilogy – Bridge Over Troubled Water – How Great Thou Art – A Big Hunk O’ Love – Help Me Make It Through the Night - Can’t Help Falling in Love – Closing Vamp.
The sound is very good and includes 2 rarities: ‘Trouble’ in a medley with his newest single ‘Raised on Rock’. He would continue doing ‘Trouble’ for this season but drop ‘Raised on Rock’. So, this is a one-of-a-king performance. The other rarity is ‘Memphis Tennessee’, and it’s a good version. Other highlights include ‘Steamroller Blues’, ‘My Boy’, ‘How Great Thou Art’ and ‘Help Me Make It Through the Night’. A very good show!
January 26, 1974 – Something Old, Something New (Memory Records) audience – 2002.
2001 Theme - See See Rider – I Got A Woman/Amen – Love Me – Let Me Be There – You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feeling – Sweet Caroline – Love Me Tender – Rock Medley – Fever – Polk Salad Annie – Introduction of Voice – Killing Me Softly by Voice – Spanish Eyes – Suspicious Minds – Band and Celebrity Introductions - I Can’t Stop Loving You – Help Me – An American Trilogy – A Big Hunk O’ Love - Can’t Help Falling in Love – Closing Vamp.
Another good sounding show from this label with Elvis in good spirit. Not much talking but performed well. The new songs included are ‘Help Me’, ‘Spanish Eyes’ and ‘Let Me Be There’. He also did good versions of ‘Sweet Caroline’, ‘Polk Salad Annie’ and ‘A Big Hunk O Love’. His backup group ‘Voice’ did ‘Killing Me Softly’ as requested by Elvis. A good sounding show overall.
Part 3 will include August 1974, 1975 and 1976.
