“The Chipmunk Song” from the Chipmunks was #1 for a fourth straight week. The Platters, amazingly enough, remained at #2 for the fourth week and were still in position to make a move to the top with “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes”. “My Happiness” from Connie Francis was third, followed by “Gotta’ Travel On” from Billy Grammer and the Teddy Bears’ big hit “To Know Him Is To Love Him”. The rest of the Top 10: “Whole Lotta’ Loving” from Fats Domino, Clyde McPhatter with “A Lover’s Question”, Elvis Presley and “One Night”, the Everly Brothers dropped to #9 with “Problems” and Ricky Nelson had song #10 with “Lonesome Town”.

Elvis arrived on his motorcycle at RCA’s Studio B in Nashville at 6.30 p.m. He started off this 5 hour session by sending out for a take-out order for all. After re-recording Ask Me and Memphis Tennessee, from the May session, he delivered a moving performance of It Hurts Me.

Still rehearsing on Sunset in Las Vegas Elvis worked every night except for Sunday for 5 nights. Generally he arrived at the studio about 7.00 p.m. and worked then for 5 or 6 hours.

1973
On this special day Elvis attended an extra rehearsal at the International Convention Center Arena to check out some technical difficulties. He would perform on a stage with a long runway extending out into the audience and a giant flashing figure of Elvis as the backdrop.
Elvis Presley performed the rehearsal show for the “Elvis, Aloha From Hawaii” concert.

The show started at 8.30 p.m. and this was billed as a dress rehearsal and taped in case there were problems with satellite transmission the next night. The repertoire for each show was identical. No admission was charged, but contributions were expected and a goal of $25,000 for the Kui Lee Cancer Fund had been announced.

The Dress Rehearsal concert was filmed and eventually released on LP and CD, and VHS and DVD as The Alternate Aloha

The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame inducts The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, The Mamas And The Papas, Santana, Lloyd Price, Gene Vincent, Allen Toussaint and Jelly Roll Morton. The event marked the first time that all seven current and past members of The Eagles were photographed together. Former band mates Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner, who had quit the group, were virtually ignored by Don Henley and Glenn Frey and were forced to the extreme edges of the stage when the band played a short set of past hits.
