Elvis Presley had his 9th UK #1 lasting 4 weeks with single with “His Latest Flame / Little Sister”. In the US. His Latest Flame reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 2 on the Easy Listening chart, based (at the time) on the Top 100. However, the single’s Hot 100 chart run was atypical of a Top Ten hit. In the autumn of 1961 it shot from 22 to 4, then dropped to 10, then 26, all within the space of four weeks.
Little Sister made #5 in the US and # in the UK.

After that he traveled to Las Vegas where he saw Johnnie Ray at the Hacienda, as well as many other favorite acts.
Girls Girls Girls soundtrack was released peaked at number three on the Top LP’s chart. It was certified Gold on August 13, 1963 by the Recording Industry Association of America.
1964
Elvis Presley released the single “Blue Christmas” b/w “Wooden Heart,” two of his album tracks from years earlier. “Blue Christmas” was recorded and first released in 1957 on “Elvis’ Christmas Album.” “Wooden Heart” was recorded for the 1960 Presley film and album “G.I. Blues,” but at the time, RCA declined to release it as a single. A cover version by Joe Dowell made it to #1 in North America during the summer of 1961.

The first issue of the Rock and Roll magazine Rolling Stone, which included a free roach clip with every subscription, is published in San Francisco. The name of the magazine was compiled from three significant sources: the Muddy Waters song, the first rock ‘n’ roll record by Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones. The Recording Industry Association of America announces their Artists Of The Century. The Beatles top the list for US sales of over 106 million albums. Garth Brooks was named most successful male artist (89 million albums sold) and Barbra Streisand the most successful female artist. (62 million albums sold). Elvis Presley had the most Gold and Platinum singles with 77, to go along with his 80 Gold and Platinum albums. Elton John’s “Candle In The Wind” (Princess Diana version) is the best selling single of all time and the Eagles “Greatest Hits 1971 – 1975” is the record holder for best selling album.
Nina Notes: Elvis Presley was never an album artist, he worked through singles – and his EP 4 song discs are not counted, nor is 1956 and 1957 his biggest years of sales. So these lists are skewed to favor the modern performer in a much larger market that is changing from physical to digital sales. Elvis Presley would be first to all new formats as a test, and then not given credit for sales.
