From memory, they did not film complete shows in Vegas or On Tour. Also, a big expensive box set would have limited appeal, so costs would very likely outstrip sales

The ‘68 Special is owned by EPE and the program is unique as it has real historic context so was able to attract a much wider audience. That doesn’t apply with TTWII and EOT and there would be a lot of repetition which the public are unlikely to want to buy into. If those people already own TTWII and EOT, that may well be all they need.

Anyone else getting the sense this new film is Vegas August 1970 only?

The pre-trailer from a few months back starts with interview footage of Elvis talking about Mario Lanza during the filming of EOT. So I think there will be some 1972 footage in EPiC.

I very much doubt it will be TTWII material only - maybe something like a 60:40 ratio with TTWII:EOT. Ut I think it will be a de ent mix from both plus that bit of ‘57 footage maybe as the intro.

Man, I can't wait for EPiC to hit the Movie Theaters. :D

Hopefully, it will be so good that I'll want to go see it multiple times.

The teaser, the marketing material and the narrative from Luhrmann's 2022 film suggests to me that TTWII will get a higher percentage of visuals. The EOT interview will form the central narrative from audio point of view.

Which is basically what I said. With a run time of 96 minutes, we can probably discard 4 minutes via opening and closing credit and a couple of minutes from that ‘57 movie, which will basically give us 90 minutes of Elvis, which could translate as 54 with TTWII footage and 36 with EOT. I’d be surprised if the ratio difference went further than 60 for TTWII and 30 with EOT.
I think that if it goes to far away from EOT, lots of fans will be unhappy as I believe they see this movie as an opportunity to get a lot of unreleased EOT footage out, as there has already been two variations of TTWII footage
What will be interesting is how the two will be combined - will it be like a story of how the shows developed by going from Vegas to ‘on the road’ concerts or will things be totally mixed up based around Elvis’ story telling narrative.

Baz Luhrmann’s extraordinary documentary may be the most poignant account of Elvis Presley’s life and career to date, featuring long-lost footage from his epochal 1970s residency in Las Vegas.

Baz Luhrmann returns to the subject of his most audacious film — 2022’s Elvis — with the extraordinary EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert. Free of contemporary interviews with experts, critics or other stakeholders, the film is propelled by recently discovered archival footage shot at the beginning of the famed performer’s Las Vegas residency. Originally intended to last a few weeks at the International Hotel, the 1969 engagement was shockingly lucrative, and stretched on for over seven years.

Brilliantly compiled with an aficionado’s enthusiasm and sensitivity, the film shifts skilfully between rehearsals, where Presley is cheerful, hard-working, even goofy, and live performances that vary from powerful and grandiose to rushed. There are moments where he can’t keep up with the breakneck arrangements and loses his breath. (He was booked to do at least two shows most days.) Among the standouts are “Poke Salad Annie” and “Burning Love,” a chart-topper he cut in early 1972. There are also cutaways to an army of excited celebrities attending the shows and a nod to Presley’s journey from scandalous hip-shaker to showbiz icon.

Luhrmann’s previous feature stressed Presley manager Colonel Tom Parker’s disastrous impact on his client’s artistic growth and ability to tour internationally. Here, the focus lands on Presley’s musicianship and his interactions with band members and singers. What’s revealed is his deep knowledge of gospel, blues, and country traditions, and his instinctive feel for finding the best arrangements and pace for his songs. This is perhaps the most poignant account of Presley to date.

It's not the TCB band, its not the Sweet Inspirations, It's not the Impperials...

Uhm, yes, it sounds fantastic. However, if the movie has the band removed from the soundtrack...well...

For me, part ( a big part!) of Elvis' magic was the interaction with his band and vocalists. I mean, Ronnie, James, John, Glenn, Jerry, Charlie, the Sweets, Imperials etc etc... aren't they essential to the man and his music? So, a little "pimping up" the sound is fine but I hope his key musicians aren't erased!

Here's the original edit without the Baz overdub. Here, you can clearly hear the Sweet Inspirations singing along.

Elvis ( EOT interview ) is going to be the narrator, so to speak. As the film is going to be ' in his own words'. So we can assume his life story and creative process will be covered - influences, band, his dissatisfaction with films and so on.

The reason I think TTWII will be covered more than 60% is because he looks and sounds more energetic and the footage is more diverse visually.

But let's see.

Angie Marchese told that ALL found material has been restored for later projects. So, it might be tempting to get a modern film that catches more new fans in cinema and TV first. A movie that transports Elvis in the modern world with modern cuts and yes .. maybe modern supporting overdubs. And maybe later the collectors projects.
