Do someone remember this CDs from Diamond ?
Was the sound better than the new Sunset Boulevard?
What i found out is that some bootlegs sounds beter than on the Sony or FTD . Is it possible that some kind of bootlegs use the original tapes and Sony the copy tapes , i think it so well .

I do remember the DAE releases. They were very nice releases with good sound.

I made a quick comparison between the two. The DAE sounds mono and the sound is a bit warmer and brighter to my ears. The Sunset Blvd release is in stereo/binaural and sounds a little more muffled to me. I'm not a sound expert so I don't know wich of the two is more natural or true to the original sound of the tape. I don't think DAE had a better tape source... I guess they enhanced/altered the sound more, using a digital equalizer or something like that.

But... I prefer the DAE sound.

In my opinion, the old bootleg sounds a little worse. Although the basic mix is interesting because it is more centered, a little too much reverb has been added. Of course, that's a matter of taste. It runs faster than Autumn Gold or FTD, although at first glance I'm not quite sure which speed is actually correct. But I think the slower speed is the right one. Sunset runs even a tad slower than FTD. The FTD version isn't bad in itself, as it has the least reverb mixed in. It sounds brighter, which is more pleasant to listen to. Sunset sounds a bit cleaner in terms of noise, but is mixed a bit duller with some reverb on Elvis' voice. However, I don't think there were any differences in the tapes, it's just a different approach.

In my times was it better and greater to be an Elvis fan i am to old 51 . When there came a soundboard cd we are so happy that days in the 90 s . Now we going crying by each soundtrack and thats what i now do with cd 3 ,4 ,5 of the Sunset Boulevard release .
CD 1 and CD 2 are not undubt the bass is to much and more instrument s i hear is overdubt .
Hopes does FTD do it on a sessions Today better .

In my times was it better and greater to be an Elvis fan i am to old 51 . When there came a soundboard cd we are so happy that days in the 90 s . Now we going crying by each soundtrack and thats what i now do with cd 3 ,4 ,5 of the Sunset Boulevard release .
CD 1 and CD 2 are not undubt the bass is to much and more instrument s i hear is overdubt .

In my time and I’ve been buying for over 63 years, we were happy to get two or three singles and a couple of albums per year- and we sat down, listened and enjoyed the music. We didn’t analyse the sound to the nth degree nor having bought the record, wonder what the next release would be the day after buying the latest release, like some do now.

And if we wanted something from another country, we had to work hard at finding a decent penpal who would be willing to buy the record for us whilst we sent over an International Money Order to pay for it, or sometimes we would do swaps. Even in the late 60’s getting hold of a US or Japanese release was mind blowing to have in the collection. These days, it’s almost as easy to get an album from a foreign country as it is getting one frim your own country.

Heads up to any U.S.A. fans buying product from EU countries (most of Europe). For many years imports valued at $800 or less could be imported to the U.S.A. duty free (without payment of the tariffs and other fees). Effective August 29, 2025 Trump has ordered the end to the $800 exemption. The tariff on EU products is currently 15%. Expecting to pay it if your import reaches customs on August 29 and thereafter.

I listened to Sunset Boulevard on Spotify a bit, the 1974 rehearsal is running too slow indeed, it is dragging significantly. I checked the old DAE cd then, and it seems that the speed is correct there.

And you clearly misinterpreted my post. I was basically re-enforcing what the previous poster was saying, but adding to it by explaining what it was like for those fans who are even older. I even added an ‘lol’ when I said he was just a baby in years compared to some of us - just a little touch of humour. And in case you did not notice, the OP (AfoolSuchAsI) actually ‘liked’ my post.

Hello - yes I remember It’s Elvis Time. I think they used to produce a small magazine too. I met Scotty Moore & D J Fontana in Memphis and attended a birthday party for James Burton in Memphis too.

No, I never got to see Elvis although I did have the opportunity in the summer of 1972 to see him in Vegas but could not get the time off work. Massive disappointment.

I also feel that the recordings benefit (much) as mono recording instead of binaural/stereo.
First time we hard part of it was on the "Kickin' back" vinyl, later a part on cd version "Kickin' back and forth'; both with serious mike overload.
Later on, the (then) complete as possible on DAE release, then the FTD and now this.. the most complete one, but indeed, it runs too slow...

I believe it is dependant on what the goods are but it could be between 5% and 10%. I doubt there is any way to avoid it as the US customs will decide.

Sunset Boulevard has entered the UK main album chart at #69, which is much lower than I thought based on the mid week position. That would indicate that sales from the initial few days have not improved over the last few days. The chart position is better than last year’s Memphis at #83 but not as good as Back in Nashville at #63.

However, sales including the double dipping of the CD set and vinyl, plus downloads and streaming give equivalent unit sales of 2,260 which is the best for a few years. It will be interesting to see if it gets another week on the chart which is the measurement of those outside of the fanbase buying the release on day one.

Following on from last week’s mid-week album chart entry at #18 on Monday rising to #13 by Wednesday, the Sunset album has dropped out of the mid week chart for this week, which means it is likely to drop out of the main chart this coming Friday and suggests that there is little interest in the release outside of the fanbase
