This show never quite matched the anticipation. Part of the problem was the sound inside the stadium. During the first half of the show, Elvis could hardly be heard above the musicians and backing singers.
Cynthia Dagnal of the Sunday-Times reported: “One lovely miss in a tight jumpsuit approached the stage, boquet in her hand. He squatted down, ever so slowly – you could hear every female’s heart thumping as he got closer and closer to her. He gave her that smooth, sexy leer, and in that voice that comes from someplace down his belly muttered, ‘Honey, whatchoo got on your mind?’ It dripped suggestion. And then came the teasing smile, ‘Naw, I can’t do that – there’s children here honey.’ And then he laid a kiss on her and the unanimous heart throbs erupted into one huge groan from all corners of the stage. This guy doesn’t have to move. He oozes cool.
