Re: Elvis Presley - Sunset Boulevard
Had the chance to listened some tracks.....what they made with Shake a hand master is horrible IMO....why add that aweful guitar?!! For some reason it wasn't include on the original master!

Re: Elvis Presley - Sunset Boulevard
The vinyl version is a beauty too and contains highlights from the two first cd's.

Well it's a different mix, so.. it does sound a bit amateurish at timesAle wrote: August 3rd, 2025, 2:17 pm Had the chance to listened some tracks.....what they made with Shake a hand master is horrible IMO....why add that aweful guitar?!! It does however makes for a new listening experience
Re: Elvis Presley - Sunset Boulevard
That is not the guitar. It's Dominic the bull mooohing while standing in front of the studio door. Mr. Ross Spang: They left that hoorible guitar out for a reason.Ale wrote: August 3rd, 2025, 2:17 pm Had the chance to listened some tracks.....what they made with Shake a hand master is horrible IMO....why add that aweful guitar?!! In a way, disc one and two are worth the money... the other three cd's are not really 'new' to collectors.(not that i'm saying the first two cd's are 'new', but reworked).
A double cd was in a way the best option.
To me the vinyl edition is more like it, it stays in theme with the studio recordings 1972-1975.

Re: Elvis Presley - Sunset Boulevard
About I Can Help: We hear this unfinished guitar on the FTD rough master mix, Keith doesn't mention anything about a guitar overdub, and yet here we have the perfect guitar. What's the story behind this?

Re: Elvis Presley - Sunset Boulevard
It says: The guitar part on the rough mix master was played by James Burton in the studio. For the overdub, Felton Jarvis turned to Chip Young, who also played the solo on Billy Swan's original, although the intro there was played by Reggie Young. Chip Young took over both parts on Elvis' version, and James Burton was mixed out.

I canceled this set a week or so ago (Amazon UK). When I heard that the speed was not corrected on the 1974 rehearsal and that Elvis’ voice was lowered on 1970 rehearsal- I knew that I made the right decision.

Received my first copy on Friday last in the post and I can't stop listening to it. I bought a second copy yesterday which I will keep sealed for collection purposes. It looks like this may sell reasonably well. Hopefullly it will get a boost during Elvis Week. I would love to see it in the charts even if modest..

Re: Elvis Presley - Sunset Boulevard
Sunset Boulevard came in to the UK mid week album chart at #18, but that is basically to be expected based around pre-order day one sales. Friday will be the time to make a proper judgement and then how long it remains in the chart.Joemin wrote: August 6th, 2025, 7:38 am Received my first copy on Friday last in the post and I can't stop listening to it. Last year’s Memphis set came in on the main chart at #83, and lasted just one week selling around 1400 copies inc downloads etc. The previous release Aloha from Hawaii for August 2023 did not chart at all nor did Elvis on Tour for 2022 with initial sales of around 1200 copies which was surprising considering it had unreleased shows, but maybe the price had something to do with it as it also in check a Blu-Ray. The best chart placement in recent years was Back in Nashville in 2021 which peaked at #61 for one week selling around 1730 units. Interestingly, the better set From Elvis in Nashville peaked at #70 also for one week, but had slightly better initial sales of around 1940 units.

Re: Elvis Presley - Sunset Boulevard
Well they’re getting as much exposure as Sony can afford to throw at them with an allocated budget.Joemin wrote: August 7th, 2025, 3:16 pm Thanks for the info FanFrom'61. These excellent albums are not getting the exposure they deserve.
The problem is that like this latest Sunset Boulevard release, nobody outside of the Elvis fanbase has any idea about the TODAY album - it didn’t sell that well when it originally came out, so has no historical merit. The media cannot write much about the album as it was basically a new Elvis studio album that wasn’t that much different to the ones that preceded it. And in the same way that the media couldn’t really write much about those aforementioned album sets like Elvis on Tour. Whilst the fans wanted the release, to the general public, the shows meant very little to them, especially if they already had a copy of the MSG album.

Re: Elvis Presley - Sunset Boulevard
That is certainly the best placement for a new release in the mid week chart in recent years. The problem of course is that chart positions are relevant to what else is selling or not selling, so if everything else under it is selling low copies on this particular week, it will look good for Elvis’ placement.
Some fans will see it as an achievement because it is one place higher than Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, and as a new release, I think it fair to say that you would expect it to be on its first week of release because Rumours has been in the midweek chart for 900 weeks and the main chart for over 1100 weeks. This is how things end up being a little distorted.
Based on the mid week chart position of 13, and with estimated sales of 1600 units so far which includes streaming and downloads, I would be surprised if this release was not in the Top 40 for the main chart at the end of the week.
If this happens, it will be Elvis’ highest chart placement on week one of a new release since Where No One Stands Alone in 2018 which entered at #9 before dropping down to #28the following week. Three weeks later, it had dropped out. So it will be interesting to see where and how chart placements and sales are by Saturday.
Personally, I find Disc 1 & 2 a really good listen, especially Disc 1.

Re: Elvis Presley - Sunset Boulevard
I have listened to the set on Qobuz, where it can be found in hi res audio. It's always funny to hear people talking about the audio after having listened to stuff via Spotify. I like Matt's work very much, the songs sound better than the incarnations Elvis approved in the 1970s. It's all more vital, more punchy and less cluttered. The 1970 rehearsal sounds good, I don't like the lead vocalist's voice too much upfront. I guess the stuff from 1974 could be improved a lot, but the sales and streams might not be worth the effort.

The new refreshed mixes on these tracks are wonderful - particularly the "Today" material which really needed a refresh.
I missed out on "Standard Room Only"'s vinyl release so to get (most) of that material on vinyl was an added bonus.

Re: Elvis Presley - Sunset Boulevard
Sunset Boulevard has entered the UK main album chart at #69, which is much lower than I thought based on the mid week position. That would indicate that sales from the initial few days have not improved over the last few days. The chart position is better than last year’s Memphis at #83 but not as good as Back in Nashville at #63.
However, sales including the double dipping of the CD set and vinyl, plus downloads and streaming give equivalent unit sales of 2,260 which is the best for a few years. It will be interesting to see if it gets another week on the chart which is the measurement of those outside of the fanbase buying the release on day one.
