MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis edition of the board game Monopoly was revealed at the University of Memphis on Wednesday, a year after the announcement of the game.
According to Monopoly, this edition replaces the board game’s Atlantic City squares (from Boardwalk to Park Place) with city cultural sites, historic landmarks, charitable organizations, and businesses.
Sarah Bowman, Sales Executive, Top Trumps USA, Hasbro’s licensing company, told WREG that a vote was conducted after asking Memphians what they wanted to see on the Memphis edition.
She said thousands of people responded, talking about the University of Memphis, hangout spots, barbecue spots, and the culture and pride.
Bowman said on the community chest cards, there are little easter eggs about the flat tires and potholes when you land on the square.
“I met with hundreds of organizations from Memphis, businesses that have been here a hundred years plus, and non-profits and charities, like St. Jude and Le Bonheur, who are on the board.” And it was so special to talk to each one of them to find out how do we the best job we can.
“There’s only 22 properties squares. That’s the problem. You can make a whole board just for food in Memphis. You can make a whole one of Beale Street,” said Bowman. “So it was our job to make a good combination of everything that locals and tourists love about Memphis.”
According to Top Trumps USA, the game is available for pre-order for $39.99. Click here for more information on the game: https://us.toptrumps.com/products/memph ... board-game
